Leave it to Trina to have memories usually rooted in food. It never failed. Those dreams about a blue car were no doubt triggered at some point by a blueberry muffin before going to bed. And that black patent leather purse she bragged about was undoubtedly inspired by some strand of black licorice, known to be an aphrodisiac. That's it… food and sex. The two had an intertwining with a fine line of division. Talk about a Better than Sex Cake often had Trina scratching her head. Better than sex? She had her doubts.

Currently I'm working on editing a short story on love later in life for an anthology by Red Rose Publishing. It's going to be published in the fall of this year. Writing for the newspaper has kept me really busy lately. I'm also writing for a teacher magazine and have been giving talks and holding book signings for my two poetry books. Life is good. I'm also editing a short story for a humor anthology that is going to be published.

A new book is coming out at MS Fiction that honors cancer survivors. A group romance authors came together to write stories in order to raise money for Susan G. Komen cancer research. Phyllis Johnson has a poem included that was written in memory of her father. It is a touching poem. Read the stories for a heartwarming experience. Coming soon!

The short stories I co-wrote with Spike Fremont are on the best seller list at Red Rose Publishing online. Cool beans. He just told me about it tonight. That always makes you feel good
to see your work up on a list like that. Especially a best selling list. Made my night, that's for sure.

Another thrill for me this month... I was at a book signing where Merlicious 3 was sold. My mermaid story was in it. The story title is Through Thick and Fin.

It's been a good month.

Merlcious 3 - Anthology of Mermaid Stories

I understand today that a book that I have a mermaid story in is selling well at Midnight Showcase. Six authors in Chesapeake Romance Writers are in this anthology with me. Mermaids are the group's mascots so to speak and our nearby city, Norfolk, has a mermaid sculpture on nearly every corner.

Our conference, the annual Fantasies by the Sea is coming up November 10 with a big book signing on November 11.

Order Merlicious books 1-3. Books 2 and 3 are written by my fellow writing peers in CRW!

I'm happy to announce that my short stories co-written with Spike Fremont, Pickup Lines from a Pickup Truck, are being released November 1st from Red Rose Publishing. They were great fun to write with him and I look forward to more co-writing in the future. I thought the cover art was especially fun because Spike has dark hair and I have long blonde hair myself.

How often has a pickup line worked on you? Do you know how to work the magic of a line yourself? Have fun either seeing yourself in some of the characters found in the stories or learn something new about the approach in meeting new guys or gals. Check it out!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and will have a Happy New Year. The New Year is ushering in many good things in the way of writing for me. I now have a contract for some Valentine poetry, "Pink Lipped Sunrise" with Mardi Gras Publishing and I will post the front cover of that when it is released. I expect to also get a contract for a collection of short stories, "Bachelorette Party." My alter ego has just written a cover story for a new glossy magazine and is publishing an in print poetry book this year with promise of a contract for one next year as well. I am planning book signings for my locally printed in-print book early this year. Life is good.

Why Write Romance?

I am a multi-genre writer but what moves me to write romance is the sheer concept of falling in love. Nothing is more moving or inspirational. Love and romance has inspired many beautiful works of art such as films, paintings, music and literature. Romance is what greases the gears so to speak and yeah, you can run with that expression if you like. (smile) I like to write about people who find themselves destined to be together and what drives them toward each other. Humor is another key element because flirtatious joking that takes place during the inception of the relationship is vital. Sitting down to write romantic stories requires a boost of adrenaline and a touch of magic. When the Muse hits, you have to rush to that special spot to jot it down.
Besides, you know what they say about love making the world go 'round.... or makes those fingers hit the keys.... yeah baby...

The inspiration for this collection of short stories, Lipstick Ladies and Doodling Divas, to be published by Mardi Gras Publishing, you should get your hands on one of those lipstick personality charts. They are uncanny in that they reveal your personality just by checking out the way you wear down your lipstick tube. You won't believe it. I saw my chart at a makeup party. Anyway, the chart inspired these stories and the end of the stories contains a few short pieces inspired by the doodle book. Have fun with them when they are released. I had fun writing them...

How many times have you sat by the sea and wondered about the fantasy world of mermaids and sea captains? Living in a nautical area and inspired by sculptures of mermaids, my mind spun stories of such maidens. Once I wrote a story about a mermaid and the very next day, I won a cross stitch picture of a mermaid. Strange, huh? Such is my life...

My writing friends and I are writing two books of such stories. They are under contract by Midnight Showcase. These books will be published next year.
